One of the most important things about looking youthful is to have a modern haircut

Hair and Trust are those which can’t be regained immediately, if we lose. Maybe, that’s the reason no one takes risk of switching a Barber/Stylist in his/her life unless they travel or they have no option left. Visiting a new Barber is always hard and we don’t know, how we come-out of that Barber Shop. But

A Barber is an artist with scissors on the plate of trust.

Being a barber is about taking care of the people — Anthony Hamilton

Barbershop is not a hobby, it’s a lifestyle.

There are few interesting stories with barbers in my life. I would like to share one fascinating tale which is the best embarrassing moment of my life.

Preface to the Story:

I am from Andhrapradesh which is Telugu speaking state in India. I work in Kerala which is Malayalam speaking state in India. India is a diverse country with several languages and cultures. So, for the better govern, country divided into states based on language.

I don’t face any language issue at Work, Hotels and Supermarkets but facing the locals, Gas Agency, Bike Servicing, Courier Boys cause trouble sometimes. Like everyone, they expect to speak in their mother tongue first.

Among several incidents, incidents with Barbers and in Barbershops are special. Let’s dive into the main story.

Story:

In those early days in Kochi, Kerala, one day I went to a barbershop near to my stay. I was worried about explaining him the haircut I want. Since the barber is busy with the customer, I sat waiting for my turn by looking at the pictures of Malayalam magazines.

This Barber spoke in Hindi(one of the major speaking language in India) with the customer. I was relieved, because I can manage speaking Hindi and now I can explain the haircut I want.

There are two service chairs in this shop and only one guy is working. While I was looking around for the another Barber, a freakish guy with bushy curly hair entered.

The thoughts running in my head are:
1. Is this guy the second Barber?
2. Then, why he sat instead of starting the job.
3. Maybe, he is taking a minute to start a job.
4. Maybe, he has a habit of reading magazine in the morning before work.
5. Maybe, he is a customer.

Bollywood songs are playing in TV.

After few minutes passed, suddenly the guy next to me stood-up and started saying to me in Malayalam language.

I didn't understand what he says. In that very moment, since my thoughts were leaned towards assuming him as a Barber. I assumed, he must be asking the general questions any barber would ask. I started giving him directions of haircut.

The conversation went for few seconds.

Finally, I realised that he is giving me the directions of haircut. Those 5 thoughts I mentioned above were also running in his mind, I guess.

He assumed me as a Barber.

The actual Barber burst into laughter after realising the situation. I don’t know whether this freakish guy was embarrassed, I felt embarrassed and sat quietly. After couple of minutes, we opened a talk and cleared the embarrassed air between us.

Beware of the young doctor and the old barber.
